Coach Biographies

Eric Salverda:

Front Pack - Head Coach (since 2008)

Started playing rugby as a freshmen in college.  Played all four years, serving as captain and player/coach  my senior year.  Played mostly flanker and 8 man ( I was a lot thinner back then)

Recruited by and played for Philadelphia-Whitemarsh RFC.  Moved to prop and backed up then Eagle Butch Horwath.  PWRFC were perennial champions of the EPRU during this time, and at one point listed 4 Eagles as players.  Highlight of these years was finishing runner up in the 1989 National Championship to OMBAC in Denver.

Spent time away from rugby moving to MN and starting a family.

Started back up as a player with the Eastside Banshees while on a sabbatical from my teaching job.  Steep learning curve getting up to speed on all the rule changes made in my absence.  Received my one and only career red card on my first start for wearing my wedding ring during the game.

Player and assistant coach with the Banshees.

Born and raised in Kenya, and started playing rugby in 1986. Continued playing through high school, followed with some men's club rugby before coming to the US in 1993. Positions played included fullback, inside center, #8, flanker and hooker.

Most recently started playing again with the Eastside Banshees RFC, a nonprofit 501(c) organization, in 2007. Currently continues to be an active player with the Banshees in the Midwest Division II conference, and also serves as the club president.

Started helping out with the Southside Barbarians in 2009 and hope to continue coaching our awesome high school kids for the foreseeable future.

Favorite team to watch at the top level is the New Zealand All Blacks, and his favorite player is Zinzan Brooke, who played #8 for NZ in the late 80s thru 1997.
